About Ceramicah

Ceramicah is a Los Angeles ceramics studio founded by Micah Blyckert and Alexandra Cadiz, both former architects. Micah wheel-throws every piece himself, a process he has practised since childhood. Alexandra handles the creative vision and the studio's direction. The Tera Lamp is the studio's signature object: a table lamp whose proportions and silhouette are designed to work in almost any context, with the finish doing the specific work of placing it in a room.

The lamp is handmade. Every base comes from Micah's hands on the wheel. What changes across the fourteen finishes is what happens to the clay surface after throwing, and that distinction is worth understanding before you choose.

The Glazed finishes

The Glazed Tera Lamp is the original and the most varied of the four families. The clay body is fired with a glaze that gives the surface depth and a slight luminosity. Each colour sits within the glaze rather than on top of it, which means the finish moves with the light in the room rather than sitting flat. Six colours are available in this family: Toshiko, Ivory, Ochre, Umber, Agate, and Dark Chrome.

Toshiko is a warm oatmeal tone, earthy and easy to place. Ochre reads amber in warm light and quieter in natural light. Umber is a deeper brown, grounding and rich. Ivory is pale and almost architectural. Agate tends toward blue-grey, the coolest tone in the family. Dark Chrome is the most dramatic: a deep, slightly metallic glaze that absorbs rather than reflects.

The Lime Plaster finishes

The Lime Plaster Tera Lamp is a different object from the Glazed version, despite sharing the same form. Once the ceramic base is wheel-thrown, it receives a lime plaster surface treatment that gives it a texture much closer to stone or raw wall than to ceramics. The result reads matte, tactile, and architectural. The finish absorbs light rather than reflecting it, making the lamp feel more structural than decorative.

Four colours are available: Beige, White, Sienna, and Deep Green. Beige is the most neutral, easy to read against almost any surface. White is cooler and more graphic. Sienna has warmth without being obviously terracotta. Deep Green is the most specific and rewards a room that can hold it.

The Lime Plaster finishes are priced higher than the Glazed family, reflecting the additional surface work. They suit spaces with a more architectural or material sensibility: raw concrete, plaster walls, stone, natural linen.

The Unglazed finishes

The Unglazed Tera Lamp is fired without any surface treatment beyond the clay itself. What you see is the natural texture and colour of the ceramic body as it comes from the kiln. The result is the most material and understated finish in the range: raw, slightly rough to the touch, and varying subtly across the surface in a way no glaze can replicate.

Two colours are available: Stone and Sand. Both are pale and neutral, but Stone leans slightly cooler and Sand reads warmer. The Unglazed finishes are for rooms that want the lamp to be present but not prominent, a ceramic object rather than a ceramic object that also has a colour.

The Stripe finishes

The Stripe Tera Lamp is the most graphic of the four families. A striped pattern runs across the ceramic base, giving the lamp a different kind of presence: pattern-led rather than material-led. Two versions are available: one with a striped base and a black shade, and one with a striped base and a striped shade. The Black/Stripe version is the more restrained of the two; the all-Stripe version is more committed.

The Stripe finishes suit rooms that already have pattern, or rooms that specifically need one point of pattern amid a field of texture and tone.

The Tera Sconce carries the same form and material logic as the Tera Lamp but is built for the wall. Handmade using wheel-thrown and slab construction, it is available in the Glazed Toshiko finish and proportioned to work alongside the lamp in the same space or independently. For rooms where a table lamp is not possible but the Ceramicah material presence is wanted, this is the option.
