Product Story
Vintage Handwoven Raffia Textile (Democratic Republic of Congo, mid-20th century)
Framed size: 29 x 29 in
A one-of-a-kind vintage Kuba textile from the Democratic Republic of Congo, professionally framed as a standalone work of art. This piece features a rhythmic diamond grid motif in earthy ochre, black, and cream — a geometric composition made entirely by hand using techniques passed down through generations.
Traditionally woven by Kuba men from raffia palm fibers and detailed by women through surface embroidery, these cloths were used as ceremonial garments, currency, or prestige gifts. Each is unique, with subtle shifts in pattern and form that reflect the human hand behind every stitch.
Framed in warm walnut with gallery-grade glass and floated on an oversized mat that leaves the raw textile edges fully visible, this piece has been preserved and presented with the care of a museum object.
